‘Salam Salam Hajar Salam’ lyricist Fazal-e-Khuda dies of Covid-19

Noted lyricist Fazal-e-Khuda, best known for the legendary song, “Salam Salam Hajar Salam”, passed away at today in the capital’s Sohrawardy Hospital at 4 am in the morning. He was previously diagnosed with Covid-19.

The news was confirmed by Fazle Khuda’s son Sajib Onasis. “He will be buried in the afternoon today at Rayer Bazar graveyard,” says Sajib.

The lyricist’s wife, Mahmuda Sultana, had also tested positive for Covid-19.

Both of them are currently staying in isolation at their home.

Fazal-e-Khuda was renowned for his patriotic, modern, folk, and Islamic songs. Some of his notable songs include “Je Deshete Shapla Shaluk Jhiler Jole Bhashe”, “Bhalobashar Mullo Koto, Ami Kichu Jani Na”, and “Kolshi Kaandhe Ghaate Jai Kon Rooposhi”, among others.

He was listed as a lyricist on radio in 1963. A year later, he was listed as a lyricist on television. Fazal-e-Lhuda had also served as the regional director of Dhaka Betar.

He was the founding director of Shapla Shaluk, an organisation dedicated to children and teenagers.

Born in Banagram of Pabna on March 9, 1941, his song “Salam Salam Hajar Salam”, voiced by Abdul Jabbar, made it to the 20 best Bangla songs of all-time in a 2006 survey by BBC.

He is survived by his wife and three sons.
